Pinatas

Somewhere we got an idea to create our own pinatas. We started with a ballon and paper mache. Once it was dried we painted it and stuffed it with candy. But we didn't have any string. Well, we found some in the garage but it was really thin and by the time we hung it up it started slipping off the string and splat on the ground just as Nate was taking his first swing. So we tried again. Determined to make a strong pinata. For the last 3 weeks we have had two ballons, scraps of newspaper and tissue paper, container of paper mache, paints and paint brushes at the ready littering our kitchen. I didn't expect us to take this long. But yesterday was the long awaited day for us to crush the pinata with the baseball bat. We put 4 layers of paper mache on the ballons so it was quite sturdy. We purchased some thicker string and we painted the finished product. I think the boys would say stuffing them with candy was their favorite part. Such an exciting activity demands an audience, so we went over to Oma's house. Turns out I probably made the pinata's a little too strong for the boys to break them on thier own. But they did have fun.... and even got to eat 2 pieces of candy. I think I'll save the rest for the next adventure.
